Shall we go and say hello to the pirates?
That's what my favourite campaigner Sari asked me on Friday. A fishing vessel we've been tracking for over a year had not only got itself into trouble with the Norweigan coast guard (but miraculously avoided punishment), it was going to be turning up in Holland shortly and we were going to go and say hello. The boat in question is the Mumrinskiy, (the big one below)

Assuming of course that by 'Hello' you actually mean chain their propeller to the dock and deliver the keys to the fisheries minister along with the evidence of what they've been up to.
In the event I couldn't go as I was massively overbooked that day, and since I can't dive and haven't done action training my involvement would have been standing on the side of the docks watching. I was invited along because of the work I've been doing on our blacklist website. It's funny, one day stolen fish is just one of the many things we work on in a long list of issues, and the next I'm talking to Sari wishing I knew how to dive well enough to join in properly. I've often wondered how the people who work so hard on obscure causes get started - and I think I'm starting to find out.
